Students from Cornwall and Devon have been getting top tips on how to run their own successful fitness business.
Level 3 Sport students at Duchy College Stoke Climsland have received a fantastic insight into the nuts and bolts of a successful business that was non-existent only a few years ago.
Jay Curtis, a former sport student at Duchy College, who now works at Jacks Gym in Saltash, lectured on the financial elements of business, discussed the trials and tribulations of the competition within the industry and explained how to conduct thorough and insightful market research.
Level 2 Sport student, Calum Moore, said he “really enjoyed speaking to a fitness professional”.
“It made me think about my future in the industry. The information that Jay gave us really helped me understand the theory behind sport as a business,” he continued.
Senior Health & Fitness Instructor at Jacks Gym, Jay Curtis, said it was a great “experience to be back at Duchy College” and it was “really encouraging” to see the progress and improvements that have been made.”
“It felt good to come back and be able to support the students in their studies, providing tangible, real-life experiences,” he added.
Team Lead for Sport at Duchy College, Darren Evans, said it is great “to see that our former students are successful in the sports industry”.
“It was also a fantastic opportunity for our current students to gain an understanding of sports business in real life rather than from a lecturer in the classroom.”
There is a Courses and Careers Advice Event on Saturday 24th March, 10am until Midday, for students who may be interested in sport to come along and meet the teams and explore the facilities.
