Students from Cornwall and Devon have held a five day fundraising event to raise over £1000 for charity.
Access to Health & Social Care students at Cornwall College Saltash presented a cheque to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) for £1300.
After researching the fantastic work CHSW do for children with life limited illnesses and their families, the students were inspired to help raise funds and create awareness.
Student, Nicola Connor, said the event “consisted of a cake sale, sweet sale, raffle and three students bravely shaving their heads and getting their backs waxed.”
“One member of staff also kindly contributed to the fundraiser by adding funds that he had raised running a 10k,” Nicola continued.
“The event was a great success and has given us the chance to experience team work in a professional capacity, something that most of us will be able to use in our respective career choices.”
Team Lead for Access to Higher Education at Cornwall College Saltash, Kevin Smale, said this is “a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and staff; that they have raised so much money for such a worthy cause.”
“Access to Higher Education is not just about passing qualifications but is about enhancing our communities and recognising our responsibilities to each other.”
