Local students were delighted to support this year’s Flavour Fest 2018 launch event alongside the Tanner Brothers.
Professional Cookery and Hospitality students from Cornwall College Saltash provided excellent service front and back of house at the event held at Ocean Studios.
The night of fine dining was held to promote this year’s Flavour Fest event, the South West’s largest food festival, which runs from the 1st to the 3rd June in Plymouth.
Former Coombe Dean School student, Chloe Spear, who is studying Level 3 Professional Cookery at Cornwall College Saltash, said it was a “fantastic experience to work with the Tanner Brothers”.
“They taught me how to quenelle, which was really fun and informative,” she said.
“It was great to make contact with such talented chefs.”
Former Looe Community Academy student, Jade Davey, who is studying Level 2 Professional Cookery at Cornwall College Saltash, said at first he was “really nervous to be working at such a big event, but it was fantastic”.
“Working alongside the Tanner Brothers was really interesting, I felt I was able to communicate well with them and it’s really boosted my confidence,” she added.
Chief executive of the Plymouth City Centre Company, which organises Flavour Fest, Steve Hughes, said the students from Cornwall College Saltash “did a really fantastic job helping us to launch this year’s festival in style with some delicious dishes”.
“I’m delighted we were able to offer them this unique experience of working with Chris and James Tanner,” he added.
Team Lead for Professional Cookery at Cornwall College Saltash, Chris Penk, said the launch was a high profile event that “allowed our students to showcase their professionalism to a wider audience”.
“It reinforced that we are indeed the best catering college in the south west and we are now looking forward to supporting at the main event in June which is another great experience for our students,” he continued.
“It is the perfect opportunity for us to promote the opportunities we have for anyone interested in Catering or Hospitality.”
