Dance lovers from across the county are being invited to take part in a unique outdoor performance that culminates in a public final dance.
‘The Soul Birds’ is a collaborative piece by SpinDrift Dance Collective with Cornwall College Dance and joined by FarFlung Dance Theatre, and will be held at Pinetum Gardens in St Austell on the 22nd June.
“Winding paths, sweet songs and fiddle playing will lead the audience on an adventure through courtyards, arboretums, lakes and mazes,” according to the organisers.
“Find dancing mothers, lovers, families and garden parties and share your own stories with secret messages, love letters and sowing wishes. Dress in your finest walking boots and party suits for a heartwarming, soul glowing journey of Dance Theatre, storytelling and music.”
Director of SpinDrift Dance, Suzie West said the company is “really excited to be working with Cornwall College on such a special project for the community”.
“The philosophy of the project is to give every single dancer, whether they are six years old, a sixth form student or 66, the same creative value and same memorable experience,” she continued.
“Inspiration for the piece is taken from the stories and history that has been unearthed about St Austell’s lost romances, mining heritage and folk tales.”
Performances are at 1pm and 6pm on the 22nd June at Pinetum Gardens, Pinetum Park. Tickets are £12 per adult, no charge for children. The ticket includes all day entry to the gardens and admission to the show.
