It has been an exciting start of the academic year at a Devon college thanks to the arrival of a family of cute coatis.

The complex, but very cute coatis will be fascinating for the animal management students at Bicton College to study and observe as part of their course.

Staff and current students at the college’s state-of-the-art Animal Management Centre have created a coati paradise and Head Curator at the Animal Centre, Chloe Chart, said “everyone is delighted to welcome the coatis, which are a member of the raccoon family and have many similarities with bears”.

“They are a great addition to our Animal Centre, and will be a fantastic learning resource for our students to study, as well as monitor, feed and clean,” she added.

The coati join more than 130 other species of small animals residing on Bicton College’s impressive grounds, including the family of Meerkats that moved in earlier this year.

“Thanks to the stunning grounds, industry-standard facilities and expert tuition, Animal Care students at Bicton College progress into a multitude of rewarding careers within the animal managements and care industries,” said Bicton College Principal Phil Le Grice.

“It’s also always great to see our former students return and recent alumni visits have included those working for the Blue Cross, Secret World Wildlife Rescue, Becky Falls Wildlife Park, National Animal Welfare Trust and many more.”
