A Cornish golf student is celebrating after qualifying for the English Schools National Championships.
Megan Giles, who is currently studying on the Tournament Golf College Development Programme at Duchy College, has come second in the South West of England Schools Championships, qualifying her for the Nationals to be held at the prestigious Kendleshire Golf Club in Bristol in June.
Playing over two rounds Megan finished with a respectable final score of three over par.
“I feel I played really well in the SW of England Schools Championships, which were held at The Players Club in Bristol,” Megan said.
“The greens were lovely so it was easy to hold putts. The skills I have been working on are starting to come together and I am really looking forward to the finals at the end of June.”
Team Lead for Sport at Duchy College, Darren Evans, said Megan has “clearly worked hard over the year to fine tune her performance”.
“This is a great achievement for Megan. She is playing with confidence and consistency and is certainly a credit to the College.”
The Tournament Golf College Development Programme combines a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport with golf tuition and match play. The course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and students study a range of topics such as Sports Nutrition, Performance Analysis, Psychology and Sports Injuries.
The students also have the opportunity to take part in a residential at the Amendoeira Golf Resort in Portugal for winter training.
