Our specialist marine engineering workshop includes onboard and outboard engines, hydraulic systems, thrusters and generators from leading marine brands, giving you access to the most up-to-date equipment on the market.

In our full-size marine engine control room you can experience all areas of maintenance such as hydraulics, electrical and cooling systems, getting you ready for working in the industry, at home or abroad.

Marine Engineer Apprenticeship

Level 3 • Work-based • Falmouth Marine School


As part of the Cornwall College Group, we are the largest provider of apprenticeships in the South West. We have a fully equipped specialist marine engineering workshop with a full size marine engine control room. Whether you wish to repair and maintain marine engines or design a yacht, this marine engineering apprenticeship is the perfect place to start. Our expert staff and specialist workshops will provide you with the best hands-on tuition so that you can gain relevant experience to help your career progression in the marine engineering industry. This apprenticeship is ideal if you would like to install, maintain, and repair marine engines, ancillary systems and equipment, on yachts, commercial craft and superyachts. You will learn how to design and produce solutions to meet boat layouts, restrictions and engineering requirements.

HNC/FdSc Operational Yacht Science

Level 4 • Full-time • Falmouth Marine School


This programme is designed for those who aspire to be the future crew, bosuns officers and captains of the superyacht sector. It is designed to run alongside relevant Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) awards, to give deeper knowledge and understanding of the topics, and to give you more choice and an edge for your future career choices. It is run in partnership with UKSA in Cowes, Isle of Wight, as part of their Professional Yacht Cadetship. The cadetship requires a minimum of three years commitment to training, with phases of study on the Isle of Wight as well as periods of working onboard superyachts around the world. You will be required to make a Professional Yacht Cadetship application to UKSA, followed by a two day selection in Cowes, Isle of Wight. On successful completion of the one year HNC, you will gain direct entry onto the second year of the programme, allowing you to gain an FdSc Operational Yacht Science qualification. This programme does not follow the traditional academic year as it is designed around the superyacht season. It is studied in intensive blocks of time at UKSA and supported through Moodle (our virtual learning platform). There are additional costs for this programme to cover the cost of the Cadetship. You may be able to get help with this, contact us for more information. Time spent working on board yachts in between phases of study at UKSA are fully paid periods of employment. Marine Outboard Motor Maintenance

Professional Qualification • Part-time • Falmouth Marine School


This 4 day course is designed to introduce people into basic maintenance and servicing of outboard engines from 4hp to 70hp 2 stroke and 4 stroke. This practical course will enable the individual to complete all the checks and service requirements for an outboard motor It will also enable you to understand and rectify systematic fault finding on E.F.I (electronic fuel injection) systems, gearbox removal and calibration, cam belt replacement and valve clearance procedures. The course will also cover engine theory and fault finding procedures/test procedures.

Our current students study a range of courses including boat handling, construction, and system maintenance right through to highly academic courses such as marine science. Our Engineering diploma sits neatly between Marine Technical Certificates and Higher Education, making it a great option for those who aspire to work within a more senior engineering role. This course will allow you to develop the key skills and knowledge that an owner of a marine business would expect from their members of staff. Employees who can solve problems and develop new solutions are essential for any business to grow, this course will enable you to develop these skills and more.
