Whether you wish to repair and maintain marine engines or design a yacht, this marine engineering apprenticeship is the perfect place to start.

Our expert staff and specialist workshops will provide you with the best hands-on tuition so that you can gain relevant experience to help your career progression in the marine engineering industry.

This apprenticeship is ideal if you would like to install, maintain, and repair marine engines, ancillary systems and equipment, on yachts, commercial craft and superyachts. You will learn how to design and produce solutions to meet boat layouts, restrictions and engineering requirements.

  What You Will Learn

You will develop the knowledge needed to assemble, strip, repair and rebuild marine engines including learning how to use hand tools to cut, drill, shape and finish components. You will also learn the appropriate safety methods and equipment.

This course will also teach you how to work individually and as part of a team, you will learn the skills needed to work with minimum supervision.

Over the duration of the course you will learn how to problem solve. You will also learn how to work alongside boat builders and marine electricians and will gain a strong understanding of the marine industry.

You will develop effective communication skills to allow you to work in a supervisory role. You will also learn how to consider sustainability and the impact on the environment when making safety, quality and cost decisions.

  Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4 including English, maths, a science and technology and an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice.

  Progression

A higher-level apprenticeship in this sector, University study such as our FdSc Engineering or employment in the industry.

This 4 day course is designed to introduce people into basic maintenance and servicing of outboard engines from 4hp to 70hp 2 stroke and 4 stroke.
