Health and Social Care Apprenticeship

Cornwall College Camborne LEVEL: 2 Social Care & Health

This apprenticeship is designed for people who want to train on the job and gain a nationally recognised qualification in Health and Social Care.

You must have good interpersonal skills, respect for people who use the service, good verbal and non-verbal communication skills and a suitable level of fitness to perform some aspects of the job.

This apprenticeship supports those working in a variety of roles e.g. healthcare support worker, healthcare assistant, care assistant, personal assistant, relief team worker, night care assistant, support worker, mental health support or outreach worker, re- enablement worker, home care support, substance misuse worker and key workers in residential support or outreach worker.

You would like to work alongside your studies and gain a Level 2 qualification.

Entry Requirements:

To enrol on the Health & Social Care Apprenticeship, you need to be aged 16 and over, ideally have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade C (ideally in Maths and English) and be employed in a suitable position within the health and social care industry.

What You Will Learn:

You will attend lectures at one of the Cornwall College sites (Camborne, Saltash or St Austell) 1 day a week for 12 months; the remainder of the week is spent in the workplace, where you will need to be working up to 30 hours a week.

During this apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to select your pathway and the units to suit your job e.g. infection control, dementia awareness, supporting people with learning disabilities, support for mobility, continence and hygiene care.

You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent at the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors and assessors.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (QCF)

On successful completion of Apprenticeship Level 2, you can progress onto the nationally recognised Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.

Upon successful completion of both the Level 2 and Level 3, you may progress to a more senior position e.g. senior carer or other supervisory care positions.

In the future, you may be interested in studying further by applying for a HE degree or level 5 Higher Apprenticeship, which could lead onto a care management position.
