A strong desire to care for other people and the drive to make a real difference to their lives, are both vital if you would like a career in the social care and health industry. If you have lots of patience, the ability to
communicate and a friendly nature, you will thrive in this industry, which offers a surprisingly wide range of careers from nurses and speech therapists to midwives and mental health workers.
This apprenticeship is designed for people who want to train on the job and gain a nationally recognised qualification in Health and Social Care.
You must have good interpersonal skills, respect for people who use the service, good verbal and non-verbal communication skills and a suitable level of fitness to perform some aspects of the job.
This apprenticeship supports those working in a variety of roles e.g. healthcare support worker, healthcare assistant, care assistant, personal assistant, relief team worker, night care assistant, support worker, mental health support or outreach worker, re- enablement worker, home care support, substance misuse worker and key workers in residential support or outreach worker.

You would like to work alongside your studies and gain a Level 2 qualification.
Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths and to be employed in a suitable position within the health and social care industry.
During this apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to select your pathway and the units to suit your job e.g. infection control, dementia awareness, supporting people with learning disabilities, support for mobility, continence and hygiene care.
You will put together a portfolio of evidence to show that you are competent at the tasks you do every day, while receiving support from experienced Cornwall College tutors and assessors.
To Gain valuable experience within the workplace alongside your studies.

On successful completion of Apprenticeship Level 2, you can progress onto the nationally recognised Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.
Upon successful completion of both the Level 2 and Level 3, you may progress to a more senior position e.g. senior carer or other supervisory care positions.
In the future, you may be interested in studying further by applying for a HE degree or level 5 Higher Apprenticeship, which could lead onto a care management position.
