HND Music for Film & Television

Cornwall College Camborne LEVEL: 5 Music & Performing Arts

This exciting programme is designed to appeal to aspiring composers wanting to learn more about the practical and theoretical techniques for producing music for film, television and the games industry.

You will develop your creativity using dBs Music’s state-of-the-art recording facilities and the latest software including Avid Sibelius and Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Logic, professional orchestral libraries and Native Instruments Komplete suite.

The programme is taught by musicians, composers and recording engineers with over 30 years’ industry experience and gives you the opportunity to collaborate with film-makers and animators on other programmes within the College.

The aim of the programme is to enhance your chances of gaining employment within this exciting industry, giving you the knowledge and tools you need to successfully place your songs in a hit movie, a popular television series or media advertisements. To this end, you will learn traditional music theory alongside electronic music techniques and are encouraged to develop your own style by studying atonal, minimalist, ambient, pop and rock, and musique concrète methods to give you a broad range of styles in your toolkit.

During your study you will cover sequencing, audio engineering, audio editing, mixing and production techniques. We will also help you to develop abilities within the other audio production and postproduction areas of sound design: sound effects (SFX), dialog replacement (ADR), Foley and location sound.

Entry Requirements

48 UCAS points from AS and A-Levels (at least 32 points must be at A2-level) or relevant level 3 qualification, ie BTEC National Diploma / BTEC Extended Diploma - PPP Grades required (specific unit grades may be requested). Access to HE Diplomas in a relevant subject - 45 credits at level 3 (specific unit grades may be requested). Plus GCSEs at grade C/grade 4 or above in English Language and Mathematics: alternatives at Level 2 may be considered. Mature applicants with relevant experience but without the stated qualifications will be considered individually and are encouraged to apply. An audition or portfolio interview will be required.
