Cornwall College Camborne LEVEL: 2 Motor Vehicle

Working with heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), buses and other large transport requires specialist skills and training. We offer a dedicated full-time programme so you can go on to work with heavy vehicles, trailers and lift trucks, refrigeration lorries or bus ­fleets.

We offer a full-time initial preparation route (at Level 2 depending on your prior experience and qualifications) with a final Level 3 full-time course or apprenticeship will take you to supervisory level employment in this sector with companies as diverse as the Fire Service, Volvo and Heathrow Airport.

This one-year course allows you to specialise in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair. You will be working on real vehicles from day one in our training workshops and garages, from a 7.5-tonne ­flatbed lorry to a 38-tonne tractor unit.

Once you have completed this qualification, you will be able to remove and replace heavy vehicle parts, chassis components as well as understand the workings of mechanical, lubrication cooling systems.

GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4 or above plus a relevant Level 1 qualification.
