This Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualification is designed for marketing managers with a degree-level strategic knowledge of marketing. This means that you must have a degree in marketing or strongly related business discipline or equivalent formal qualification such as the CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing. In addition experience of managing a marketing budget and a marketing team is desirable.
The course offers a blended learning approach combining taught sessions, workshops and online support. It runs the first Wednesday of every month, during the college term time from September through to the end of June. Optional weekly tutorials are held from 6pm – 7pm every Thursday evening and can be attend in person, over the phone or online. The study group consists of a small number of experienced and certificate-level qualified marketers working in a wide variety of Cornish organisations.
In order to gain the Professional Diploma, you will undertake three modules:
This module focuses on the completion of strategic marketing plan for your own organisation and therefore includes considerable work-based learning. The plan is worth 40% of the assessment marks and is completed by end October following your September enrolment (6-7 taught sessions). For this reason it is essential that you have the appropriate certificate-level skills to allow you to achieve this task in the timescale available. You are permitted feedback from the tutor on your final draft version. The remaining 60% of the assessment is through written exam in December. The exam asks you to evaluate your plan using specific questions such as “Outline three barriers to the success and implementation of your plan and recommend how these can be overcome”.
This module examines the importance of managing marketing data in effective marketing decision making. Assessment is completed by the end of the second term of the course (i.e. before Easter) and is based on an 18-page report divided into key tasks. These could range from preparing a dashboard of the marketing metrics tools to evaluating current use of metrics in the organisation of the learner’s choice.
At certificate level, learners are required to demonstrate knowledge and application of a range of digital tools. Building upon this at Diploma level, learners are expected to demonstrate the ability to plan strategically in terms of digital communications. By June you will have completed a portfolio consisting of two separate tasks that are presented electronically and suitable for a range of stakeholders to access (i.e. internal management of the learner’s organisation and CIM). The first task involves an audit of the current digital strategy of the organisation whilst the second task focuses on recommendations for future digital investment and action.
There is a £50 membership and assessment fee, payable to CIM, required for you to gain this qualification.
