FdSc Rescue & Emergency Management

2017 Start

Bicton College Bicton LEVEL: 5 Public Services & Military Academy

Developed in association with the civil resilience and emergency response sector, local authorities, emergency services and the voluntary sector, this programme suits those looking for a career in the emergency services or those looking to develop a career in the rescue and emergency management sector, in the UK and overseas.

This innovative foundation degree is intended to provide you with a comprehensive grounding in the areas of managing emergencies, community engagement, casualty care, planning and technical response to search and rescue incidents and emergency situations.
The programme is well respected within the industry and with hard work and the requisite UCAS points it will serve as an excellent stepping stone on to paramedic science programmes.

The strength of this programme lies in the staff who deliver it. The programme manager has 30 years’ experience as a police officer, specialising in search, rescue and emergency management within a multi-agency environment, and current Chair of Cornwall Search and Rescue Team. Other tutors include a serving firefighter, a paramedic and a rescue and climbing instructor. All tutors are experts in their fields and their accumulated experience will provide a considerable resource for you.
The curriculum combines academic research and experiential learning to enable you to develop new skills and knowledge, which you will be able to apply to a wide range of situations. The foundation degree will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide operational support, improve inter-agency working and continue your higher education study. There are no formal examinations and assessment is through a mix of essays, reports, presentations and practical assessments.
