Whether that’s the welfare, husbandry and supervision of horses in a stable or livery, training thoroughbred racehorses, coaching and breeding, or being a jockey, show jumper or support technician, we can help you achieve your goal every step of the way.
We offer three options for you to start your studies in equine management depending on your GCSE results. Our Level 2 and Level 1 courses are ideal should your GCSE results not be what you expected.

The course also runs at Duchy Rosewarne but due to having limited equine facilities at this campus, you will train at Old Mills Stables.

You have very little experience with horses and wish to progress into the equine industry or onto a Level 2 programme.
This course is great for school leavers with a keen interest in horses.
GCSE English and maths at grade 2 or equivalent qualifications at Entry Level 3. Plus a basic knowledge of riding, which includes walk and trot unassisted.
There is a 13 stone weight limit.

This one-year course will teach you the basic skills to start your career in equine management, there will be the possibility of progression to Level 2 on completion of the course. Skills include mucking out, grooming, cleaning horse tack, feeding horses, riding and handling horses under direction and much more.
Our Duchy Stoke Climsland campus is home to two indoor arenas, a large outdoor arena, a weighbridge, horse walker, wash down and
solarium facilities, as well as industry standard equipment and
technology. Assessments at Duchy include external exams.
In Devon our Bicton College campus is set in an area of
outstanding natural beauty and includes an indoor and
outdoor arena, two industry standard teaching rooms, judging
areas, two full sets of show jumps, weighbridge, solarium
and walker, plus two separate yards. You will be continually
assessed throughout your course, with no exams at the end.

Alex Robinson-Barr Team Lead Equine
Alex has been around horses from a very early age and she has worked in the equine industry in Germany, America, Australia and New Zealand. Alex trained with the British Horse Society, gaining numerous qualifications which sparked her interest in training students. "We are constantly developing the equine team, to provide a quality experience and develop excellent students for the industry."
