Bicton College Bicton LEVEL: 5 Agriculture & Countryside Management

If you are interested in specialising in the management of wildlife and the countryside, this programme can provide you with the relevant skills to work in the industry.

The programme includes a work experience module which will give you hands-on knowledge and an insight into employment in the sector.

The programme is studied two days a week with a combination of classroom theory sessions and practical sessions in the field, giving experience of: wildlife surveying and monitoring skills, practical conservation techniques and environmental education. The field sessions are supported by a range of taught sessions, tutorials, seminars and visits; learning in a friendly environment with experts. The programme includes many visits to a wealth of diverse habitats such as heathlands, woodlands, uplands, coastal and freshwater habitats. You will also have the opportunity to carry out an individual piece of research which can be linked to one of the many organisations assisting with this programme.

The programme has been designed in close consultation with the conservation industry, making it extremely relevant for those planning a career in conservation and countryside management. Input from staff from the conservation industry will enable you to keep abreast of the latest developments

– Positions with organisations such as the Environment Agency, Local Authorities and the National Trust

Entry Requirements

48 UCAS points from AS and A-Levels (at least 32 points must be at A2-level) or relevant level 3 qualification, ie BTEC National Diploma / BTEC Extended Diploma - PPP Grades required (specific unit grades may be requested). Access to HE Diplomas in a relevant subject - 45 credits at level 3 (specific unit grades may be requested). Plus GCSEs at grade C/grade 4 or above in English Language, and Mathematics: alternatives at Level 2 may be considered. Mature applicants with relevant experience but without the stated qualifications will be considered individually and are encouraged to apply.

This option includes an additional Science Gateway year which is ideal if you don’t have the right qualifications to apply for a degree programme straight away. If you are applying for the FdSc Conservation & Countryside Management - with Science Gateway route on UCAS you will need to use UCAS code: 332D. Please note that when studying the Science Gateway programme, you will be based at Cornwall College Newquay.
